    Questions drivers ask

    Suspension & Brakes: FAQs

How do I know if I need new brake pads or discs?

Squealing or grinding noises, a longer stopping distance, vibration through the pedal or steering wheel, or a brake warning light are the usual signs. Discs usually need replacing every second set of pads. We'll measure them and tell you exactly what's needed.

Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?

This is most often caused by warped or unevenly worn brake discs, but it can also be a sticking caliper or worn suspension parts. A quick inspection will pinpoint it.

What is the knocking noise when I go over bumps?

Knocking over bumps typically points to worn drop links, bushes, shock absorbers or a broken coil spring. Broken springs are common on UK roads and are an MOT fail, so it's worth getting it checked.
