Clutch Replacement in Swindon
A worn clutch rarely fails all at once. It usually slips, judders or becomes hard to get into gear first. Replacing it before it fails completely avoids being stranded and can prevent damage to the flywheel.
We replace clutch kits, release bearings, hydraulic parts and dual mass flywheels on manual cars of all makes, and tell you upfront whether the flywheel needs doing too.
Symptoms of a worn clutch
- Clutch slipping: revs rise but the car doesn't speed up
- Biting point is very high on the pedal
- Difficulty selecting gears or grinding when changing gear
- Juddering when pulling away
- Burning smell after hill starts or heavy traffic
- Heavy, spongy or sticking clutch pedal
What's included
- Clutch kit replacement (clutch plate, pressure plate and release bearing)
- Dual mass flywheel inspection and replacement if required
- Clutch master and slave cylinder repairs
- Hydraulic system bleed and road test
UK cost guide
The average cost of a clutch replacement in the UK is around £670, typically ranging from about £400 to over £1,500 depending on the car and whether the flywheel needs replacing.

Questions drivers ask
Clutch Replacement: FAQs
How long does a clutch replacement take?
Most clutch replacements take between four and eight hours of labour depending on the vehicle. We'll give you a realistic timescale when we quote.
Do I need a new flywheel with my clutch?
Not always. Many modern diesels use a dual mass flywheel that wears alongside the clutch. We inspect it once the gearbox is off and only replace it if it's worn, and we'll tell you before going ahead.
How long should a clutch last?
Typically 60,000 to 100,000 miles, but lots of stop-start town driving, hill starts and riding the clutch can shorten that considerably.
