Timing Belt & Chain Replacement in Swindon
The timing belt (cambelt) or chain keeps your engine's valves and pistons in sync. If a belt snaps on most modern engines the damage can cost thousands, so replacing it on time is one of the most important jobs on any car.
We replace cambelt kits and timing chains to the manufacturer's interval, and fit a new water pump at the same time where it's driven by the belt.
When to change your timing belt or chain
- Your car has reached the manufacturer's interval, often 60,000–100,000 miles or 5–7 years
- You've bought a used car with no proof the cambelt has been changed
- Ticking or rattling from the front of the engine (common with worn chains)
- Engine management light with timing-related fault codes
- Oil or coolant leaking near the timing cover
What's included
- Timing belt kit: belt, tensioner and idler pulleys
- Water pump replacement where driven by the belt
- Auxiliary (fan) belt check or replacement
- Timing chain, guides and tensioner replacement
- Service record updated with date and mileage
UK cost guide
A timing belt replacement in the UK costs around £430 on average (roughly £230–£550 for most cars). By comparison, repairing an engine after a snapped belt commonly costs £1,000–£2,500 or more.

Questions drivers ask
Timing Belt & Chain: FAQs
Does my car have a timing belt or a timing chain?
It depends on the engine. Send us your registration on WhatsApp and we'll check whether your car has a belt or chain and when it's due.
Should I change the water pump with the timing belt?
Yes, if the water pump is driven by the timing belt. The labour largely overlaps, so changing it at the same time costs little extra and avoids a pump failure damaging the new belt.
What happens if my timing belt breaks?
The engine stops immediately. On most modern (interference) engines the valves hit the pistons, causing serious damage that can cost more than the car is worth to repair.
